Too Much Fun, Too Little Love

'You can destroy your today
worrying about tomorrow'
              -Janis Joplin

'When I sing, I don't think,
and when I sleep, I don't dream.
I am always awake, feeling everything.
Life is short, no time to dream,
but when I'm wide awake, I scream
and my soul hangs out
like the beatnik soul of everything...'

'I wanted a true friend,
it came and went and so did
the gigantic love in the crowd of eyes,
but the rush never dies,
only I do in receiving it.
But, I get up again
in some strange way,
maybe in some lonely new day...'

'To whiskey-soaked blues notes
I wail and strain.
To all who doubted me,
see how I fly now in sequins and glitter,
ball and chain left behind
with loneliness.
Where did the time go,
there is no tomorrow,
just a real long today.

One day, I'll live on in pictures and sound.
When I die, I'll be a new girl again;
it's nothing to worry about...'
