The House on the Hill

There is a house on the hilltop
just above the east cove
whose lights are seen by all
travelers at sea and settlers below
in admiration and insecurity
every eye esteems
the house on the hill.

There is a house on the hilltop
with a heavy-locked door
whose path trails green and thin
a garden overgrown and windows weary
a moat of metal keeps wanderers at bay
they dare not disturb
the house on the hill.

There is a house on the hilltop
drowning above the sea
with walls thick and barren
hallow rooms stripped bare of joyful memories
at the center lies a fire, soft and still
to wash you away
the house on the hill.

Author's Note
It took a bit to write this one- not my usual style.
Intended to be read like a bed-time story, and structured intentionally to create a flow of imagery. As always, every line has introspective meaning, though it is not meant to be understood as much as it is to be felt.

Honest feedback is greatly appreciated,
