Waking Night

I've been up for nights on end
Weeks go by with little change
And I'm tired all the time
I can't find my way back to the same sleep pattern
As the rest of humanity
Or just the humanity at home
So I spend the nights all alone in front of the tv
Or with a book open in my lap
Another goddamn book I should say
Since I've read so many
While the moon slowly tracked across my sky
That they all seem to be blending together
I stay alive with the help of naps in the middle of the day
That come over me with their own kind of darkness
They leave me confused when I awake
Always thinking it's morning
When it's two thirty in the afternoon
The bags under my eyes are turning purple
And people tell me I'm looking a little sick
In this day and age that's a good way to keep people away from you
So now I spend the daytime alone as well
Social distancing taken to a new and unwanted height
It's just me and Micheal Connelly and Lee Child
Whiling away these days of COVID19
Wondering who else is as tired as me
And watching as the same day goes by
Again and again
