Image for the poem lusting after you

lusting after you

all sounds of life you’ve uttered
of consequence or mundane
were shaped by these lips and tongue
hearing your voice makes me lust after you

the tastes of every morsel, the sweets, sours,
or bitters all came between these lips
and across this tongue
knowing you taste makes me lust after you

today these lips shaped the words “i love you”
as you pressed my firming flesh
against your warming young face
your living flesh makes me lust after you

then you gave the greatest gift
taking me in your sweetest space
where all thoughts are expressed
all tastes are savored
what can i say but “thank you” and echo, “i love you”
showering you with answers to your gift
