LOVE ALL, BUT PARENTS FIRST.
Don't let your selfishness blind your poor sight.
There are a lot of things you have to see.
If parents are a bit angry with you,
it does not mean they prefer your strong kin.
You have to show them both the love they want.
It's not the matter of receipts and gifts.
Perhaps, your father needed your strong hand;
his heart was asking you to take his seat.
Love all the people, but your parents first
and give them what you can of help and needs.
If it's too late and they have gone to rest,
direct your love to what they loved the most.

Some problems:
1. "Don't let your selfishness blind your poor sight.
If my sight is already poor, am I not already somewhat blind?
2. The syntax of this line
"and give them what you can of help and needs."
makes you say that one should give one's parents all one can of one's needs.
How nice of you to recommend that one burden one's parents with the responsibility to meet your needs!

I don't agree.
1- There is big difference between poor sightedness and blindness. Here it is used figuratively. You have to understand it.
2-The meaning you mentioned that one should give his parents of one's needs has nothing to do with the poem. It is complete nonsense. Thank you, Baldwin, for your comment although it is irrelevant.

What is used figuratively? And what is it that is to be understood?
And once again, you seem not to have read correctly what I actually sais. I asked if having poor eyesight was close to being blind. In any case, you seem to be advising someone to ensure that they don't let their poor eyesight grow worse than it is, rather than telling someone to not let themselves become blind.

Since "needs" is the direct object of the verbal expression "give [to] them what you can of", my comment is NOT irrelevant. It is extremely pertinent. You simply do not understand the thought that your words convey given how you have set them out.
