Silent Fear
Where do you go
When pushed below?
Buried deep, so deep I thought you were done,
I was sure I had won.
Silent Fear
Where do you hide
When concealed inside?
My heart rate quickens,
My body sickens.
Silent Fear
Exactly when did you start
In my life to play a part?
From nine or ten,
Where did it begin?
Silent Fear
Was it the raised hand...shoe...or belt?
When fear I first felt?
Or the many unkind spoken word,
From my Mother I heard?
Silent Fear
How is it that you hide so well?
Come now, come now...tell.
Will you ever completely go away?
Or are you here for a lengthy stay?
Silent Fear
You're not welcome here, leave me be!
Why do you continue to torture me?
Too many years you've fought to thrive.
I'm stronger than that, I will survive.

Author's Note
Even when I think I've got it all under control. I tell myself: I'm not worried, I'm not afraid. God's got my back. I know Fear is still there. Behind the smile, under the laughter, somewhere deep inside...because it comes out in other forms. Like, tense muscles, migraines, nausea, increased heart rate...

I really liked the flow of this poem and the thoughtful emotions expressed. As with any darker/sad poem, I hope all is well with you. Looking forward to reading more.

Thank you, Camo_gecko, for spending some time here. I appreciate your comment and concern. All is well: the sun is shining, the baby deer are back to visiting our yard, the squirrels are playing, and I got to hug my child (that always makes everything better).

God indeed has your back dear. The perilous past circumstances are only but a feather in the wind---gone, and never to return. And yes, sometimes the past struggles and fears hunt us to discourage us, but with God on our side, there is nothing we cannot overcome. There is nothing you cannot overcome: lovely poem Janice Rain, I absolutely enjoyed it. It really speaks a lot and contains much. Thank you.

Fear, although considered a negative emotion, has the power to bring out the best in people. Many an actor attribute stage fright to their greatest performances, no matter how crushing it may be before the call to action.
We are all just actors taking part in the eternal play of life to entertain the immortal spirits, so give them a show they'll always remember for the rest of time.
