Faceless

I used to fall asleep at night
Where your face appeared
You danced under my eyelids
You whispered in my ears
"Come with me," you whispered
You reached out your hand
You pulled away before I could grab it
On my own I could not stand
"Help me," I called out
To your figure in the dark
I could see the trace of your shadow
Your eyes in the hint of a spark
"Come on, come on"
I felt you starting to move
I try so hard to follow
I have something to prove
But you made a deal with the devil that night
Leaving me far behind
Now even when I dream at night
It's your face I cannot find

Author's Note
I started writing this poem months ago while I was bored in one of my classes; I never finished it and had completely forgotten about it until earlier today when it fell out of one of my notebooks haha
I think at the time, this was my way of expressing what abandonment feels like.
While something like this topic is normally difficult to admit or talk about, this site makes it easier :)
I hope to whoever is reading, this poem finds you well x
