Complications Of Pursuit

It is hard to keep my distance
now that I've allowed myself
permission to experience
this alternate pivot
to feel in the flesh
this blueprint
of constructed dreams

My vulnerability bare,
the assessment of imperfections
willingly encouraged

A resulting rejection
could be a curious feast
for another
now that I've arrived
unguarded

I refuse to hide
in the captivity
of another's heart,
if devotion
is nothing more
than a callous scoff

But my timing is off,
and I see the world
might have other intentions.
