salt reflavoured

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth
good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
—Matthew 5:13 KJV

of the earth,
i’m it.
if i lose my savour,
i am shit.
spit
me out
of your mout’:
my clout
is as good
as dearth.

wherewith
shall i be salted
if, self-exalted,
i have defaulted
to uselessness?

the thirsty
thirst,
while hungry men
have hung their yen
and bowed their heads
as good as dead
for want of bread.

for the limping sick,
no walking stick.
the humble
stumble
without a
grumble.

Great God Almighty,
dump me back
into the sea
that i may be
reflavoured
by Your favour!
give me back my taste
for the Living Saviour
for i must make haste
across earth’s barren waste
to set Your people free.
