a generation plagued by first world hardship
nurtured and gave rise to the individual
the embellished bigot
i fear the empire of conspiracy
a world with limitations
no pleasure
no freedom
no rights
no soapbox for outspoken youth
i fear desire restrained by necessity
i want rebellion
someone to overthrow the government
defile every symbol of sovereignty
i want to rewrite our flea-bitten history
i search for unabated truth
strung up in a web of worthless speculation
the clang clang clanging of cast iron opinions
will drown all logic and reason to doubt
humans aren't capable of figuring this shit out
before everything you thought you knew

Heh, not exactly my anger or opinions captured in this poem... I kinda held up a mirror for others to consider and reflect.
Writing observational poems in first person... figuratively speaking, you can get away with murder when you've got the gun pointed at your head.

Very well written, well thought out. I really liked this piece. It's resonant voice was very strong. .. It sticks

An interesting mirror you’ve held up here. I keep coming back to the cast iron opinions line. Because so many people look at cast iron as this strong, immovable.....thing. But any southern cook worth their salt knows you have to care for that cast iron or it’s ruined. You have to treat it and season it and make sure it’s dried immediately and only washed under the light of a full moon. Okay. Maybe not that last bit. But cast iron is slightly....well, fussy.
So that metaphor applied to an opinion is interesting. They are strong to begin with, but if they aren’t cared for they are ruined and worth nothing. They are strong and last because someone takes the time to fuss over them. Good or bad.
Sorry if that made no sense. I just kept thinking about it.

I like that you picked up on the cast iron. I used to renovate old bathrooms with these cast iron baths that were extremely heavy to move... so we'd smash them into dozens of smaller more manageable pieces with a sledge hammer. I'll never forget the ear ringing sound of the hammer striking the cast iron.
