Image for the poem masquerade

masquerade

lusting the dark does my soul yet plunder?

when in comfort's need do wander
into the arms of my keepers...my companions
so confusing in betwixt the two

my loneliness does heighten the temptation
an oddity of the human race demons seem more like me
fierce-some of nature but loyal
when my confidence crumbles they are ever-present

isolation breeds contempt
so I find myself torn asunder
hurt feelings are the catalyst that sees me spiral downward

they encircle round me in formation
my demons...my family
licking my wounds and guarding my pain
one look says I told you so

mortal fools...they are my lady
enter the night's embrace
and join the masquerade

we adore you
