i come to the cross
i
i come to the cross
with my crosses
dumbstruck by the weight
of my losses
the King of Creation
the Balm of the nations
hanged bare for the sins
of the masses
ii
i kneel at His feet
bafflefeated
by guilt for the Lord
so maltreated
His innocence clear, though
the pain His must bear; woe
to those who in shame
have retreated
iii
i yield Him my hand
empty-handed
consumed in the place
i have landed
by love elevated
though long I have waited
my ransom His life
has demanded
iv
i come to the Light
how delightful
to lose all my fear
of the frightful!
to feed all the hungry
and care for the lonely
gives back to the Lord
what is rightful
