If I Learned One Thing Tonight

My daughter is amazing  
18 wise years
 
She does know too much
fishbowl living  
 
has it's perks, i guess
 
Although for sure  
it's not the hang ups...
 
She can't help knowing  
about a restless poison seed
 
A claim to itchy feet
 
She can't help that it's showing  
what her old folks need..
 
It aint another blank
stare out the window  
 
smokin on some weed
 
That's coping for kids
grownup reality is
 
we are well past coping  
at a galloping need
 
For sanctified time  
to unwind and retreat
 
What we need now
is a plain-old follow through  
 
No more grandstanding  
over inconvenient truths
 
The next time a mouth  
opens to such effect
 
I splan to take her advice  
Seriously, with great respect  
 
Actual plans for break  
times require  
a resolute intellect
 
But if I learned one thing
 
it's that she's  
become  
 
...a great person
