The Cliff
The sea wind blows against her face as she makes her way down the cliff path.
She walks slowly, holding onto the railing by the drop, wondering if she ought to abandon her journey to the capital before she slips and falls.
But she continues, ignoring the rising disquiet urging her to turn back.

When I first read it I thought, she’s forging on braving the elements of being alone and falling without benefit of help. Getting to the last stanza “But she continues, ignoring the rising disquiet urging her to turn back.“
Aaaahhhhhh! Total nail biter with a bit of protective fetal position, hands covering eyes position waiting for whatever lurks at the bottom to appear...love the thrill. H🌷

Thanks, Honoria. The issue's not so much what might be waiting at the bottom. More, a general merge of paranoia, unwanted interest, a recent crisis, and a childhood trauma. The cliff walk acts as a symbol of her growing isolation from society.
