Image for the poem songbird

songbird

sweet jasmine lilts on a lonely breeze
into my soul where she is received
flower of strength is welcome in my sacred halls

few are privy to my inner sanctum but I can trust this beautiful spirit
fragrant and honor-bound
she smiles at me thoughtfully with a look of deep contemplation
will you sing for me from your soul today?

I look at her shyly blushing wildly
whispering I've not been a songbird in some time
but with her encouragement, I relent
slowly and awkwardly I sing tentatively
my soul's own song scribed to my heart since birth

a deep smile crosses her face
she says that's beautiful when I reach my crescendo
singing with passion and faith
she folds her delicate hands in her lap
and in hushed tones says you're ready
I am broken I argue...

she says good then they will see him not you
have faith beautiful one in all things great and small and peace be with you
