The Bottle Dance

I remember early in the season
Sitting in the stadium with my friends
And as the closer approached
I don’t know who was louder
The corps or us screaming in the stands

The local show was a couple of days
Before my high school graduation
Then I recognized the songs
And finally made the connection

My dad used to walk around the house
Singing “If I were a rich man”
Young me didn’t understand the theme
Until SCV made me a bigger fan

So I delved more into the play
The music, the Tradition and the dance
Then I knew we had more in common
And fell in love with this performance

A year later as he was fixing my car
I was in a hurry to make the local show
He cut himself pretty bad but that was dad
He was tough but knew I had to go

I woke up this morning thinking of him
Today he would have been sixty-eight
Now the music has even more meaning
As his voice singing now reverberates

That and he loved to dance
