A Country Girl
She was in the strands of grass
long before she ever knew
how it felt to lay in them
so long as to be fragranced so.
And she was a ripple on the pond
before a fish came up to surface
she was the glow that glinted forth
within the earliest morning light.
She was afire in the sun
that shone upon the land,
she already knew where she came from
before she reached out her sturdy hand.
A country side to fill her eyes
by every measure made her wise
in time, unlearning what could never be;
that in her mind, she could always be free.
.....

I was feeling nostalgic when I wrote this, I thought of how life could have been in the past a couple generations ago before technology. I'm glad I could tap into today's country life as well, I'm so glad you liked it, thanks so much for the comment and RL add :)

There's something about being born in a small town; regardless of where you live it stays with you. And when you return, even in your mind, it's always a coming home. I very much enjoyed this, PR.

I'm glad you liked this, I was a bit inspired, I think by Robert Frost's country poems, as well as Wendell Berry, I also thought of my Mom's generation, I pictured her walking through tall, yellow grass behind their old home that is gone now, but still in our minds.
Thanks so much for the comment and RL add :)

Re. A Country Girl
This is a wonderful NaPo offering, PR. It almost reads as if the countryside was created in response to her freedom, which she would eventually move away from when she no longer believed she had any.

Sometimes I like to add a circular logic to poems, it makes them interesting and I do it unintentionally sometimes, I think you picked up on that with your great observation. I feel like freedom is a perfect example of that as a subject today, since it is subjective and today's chains are invisible more or less. I liked how you mentioned 'bounds' in your last entry as something we have to work to break. Thanks so much for the comment :)
