Don't Hang Out With Ex's

People always tell me that love never dies
That is changes and transforms into something new
That lovers can't be friends, not really friends
You'll always be haunted by their kisses
When their mouths are inches from yours
You'll always remember every inch of their bodies
That body that you have touched countless times in dreams
And then there you are in a car, their smell all around you
And you could text them just fine, share dirty memes and talk about the past
Just perfectly fine until you're sharing a bottle of whiskey
And they feel like home in the best fucking way
and they don't ask who's that when you throw out names
Of people you both once knew so well
And you contemplate how we stopped talking for three years
But then he pulls you in for a hug and that feels different
That hug lingers for far too long and suddenly you wouldn't mind if he kissed you
And you take him home to just watch movies you lie to yourself
He's lying too, he knows he is and then everything goes wrong
That fragile friendship built on a past failed love cracks under the pressure
Of whiskey, nostalgia and that unforgettable knowledge of each others bodies
And it all goes wrong as if the universe is screaming at you to stop
And then it's gone as simple as it was to stop talking to him for all those years
He doesn't text you back, it's wrong now...
This is why you don't hang out with your ex's
Because love never really goes away
It just transforms and changes with you
