Dancing Dragons
Dancing Dragon
For quite some time
My wordbending was fueled by hate and anger
Used words as intentional weapons
Would say the one thing
I know would make you cry
Forcing you to bow out of the argument
Just so I could win
My words, a molestation of my talent
Writing only to prove a point
So, you don’t think I know what you’re going through
Let me tap into my Ki and gut punch you
With a flurry of blows that leaves you breathless
And hating me
The pen wasn’t mightier than the sword
It was a sword, the paper, a hammer
Duel wielding with pristine accuracy
Cutting legs out from under
Then smashing any remaining self worth
Leaving a pile of mangled emotion
Where a person once stood
I selfishly called it “provoking emotion”
Rather than what it really was
Hiding
Your eye would twitch at a word
And I would see a weak spot
That I could exploit the next time I was about to feel
I saw something I could write
Rather than sharing anything of myself
I proclaimed to have integrity
But lied with every letter
Used words as puppet strings
a dictionary as a cannon
would tie people to the barrel
And light the fuse
To leave them in pieces
Then I was surrounded
By compassion, acceptance, and love
And my powder was soaked
Words learned their own power
And went on strike
I couldn’t coax them into even the simplest
Roses are red poems in my newfound impotence
My Ki left me breathless
Crying in a mangled pool of emotion
With nowhere to hide
And I thought I was alone
From the lyrical fog
Came a hand
Inviting me into the part of life
The I had avoided for so long
The Human Experience
And as Zuko’s Dancing Dragon
Taught him the true meaning of firebending
This taught me true wordbending
Words, so simple, yet so powerful
Have spurred revolutions
Given courage to the weak
Nurtured hope where there was none to be had
And have healed my heart
Thanks for that
