Privilege

a picky eater
is a privileged eater
to a hungry child

Stay humble! Most of us are lucky...

My father is quite an eccentric man, but he was always very wise. He would fast, sometimes for up to a week, not as an exercise of discipline, but as an exercise in empathy. He did it to understand the pain of true hunger. The pain of well over a half a billion people on this planet...Let's be honest, most of us have never had to experience true hunger, let alone starvation. Most of us can't even imagine what it's like.

As a child, I was chastised and lectured for misusing the phrase, "I'm starving". At the time, I probably rolled my eyes at him... but as an adult, I think I understand.
