Here's To The Real Heros

We shut down our cities,
To protect the old and weak,
Lives completely changed,
By an enemy we can't see.

History will eventually tell the story,
And how the battle was won,
That the soldiers on the battle front,
Weren't taught to fight with a gun.

Unsung heroes in white coats,
Science: the greatest asset to humanity,
But, for now, credit will be given to those
Who pride themselves with vanity.

When the deed is finally done,
How quickly the world will forget,
Mocking and ignoring warnings
Of the very institution that saved it.

Part 2: Offbeat

Curious & rebellious minds through the centuries have fought to give us the world you see.
It is not politics nor the latest celebrity.

Look a little deeper, how would a world that never had scientists be?
No iPhones, without electricity. No medicine to cure a disease.
No internet, no flying capability.

I look at this moment
with bitter tendency.
I see years of scientific research,
ignored selectively.

A smack in the face,
As politicians decide what is
"best" for the vanity of humanity.

Tomorrow the world will return to ignoring the scientific community
To trashing the planet in the name of greed.

A prime example of this atrocity:
The smog over China and other massive cites and countries will return nearly instantly.
Along with the cloudy streams that are now clearing in Venice, Italy.

Author's Note
Part 2 started in the Author's note, I ran out of characters. It's more of a free flow, noticeably offbeat.

Be kind to our planet 😔
