A letter of Apology and Thanks To My Father

Why do I cut away his bond with me
as if his love is something from which
I want to be free?

So what if his habits are annoying
So what if we don't always agree
He's the best father I could ask for
and he always will be

So why is it so damn hard for me to be loving?
Am I really just scared of being judged for my feelings by the one who taught me what being a man means?

I just want to tell him I love him earnestly
that I don't know what I'll do on the day that he leaves

He's my best friend
A genuine example of the human good
I watch where he walks
To know where I should

I embraced him today
I said it in my mind
"I love you Dad, you're one of a kind"

I'm hoping so badly
For one more day
so I can muster the courage
to say it to your face

You are my best friend dad. I love you.

I'm very unpleasant to be around and my father treats me well anyways. I love him. This is for him.
