INNER VOICE

One day an echidna
met the marsupial mole,
on a rare occasion
at the top of the hole,
the mole was looking
for someone to tell,
his eyesight so poor
in his attempts to smell
a creature about,
he found himself licked
prodded with a snout.

“Hello” he said,
“Is someone there?
I have something of
importance to share."

"What can you tell me
which I don’t already know,
from your underground life
what have you to show?"

"Well, first there were the pages,
where can I begin,
you have to be in a place
where the silence can sing.

So I won’t tell you much
about it right now,
it’s something you just do,
not get told how.

I can tell you about
this thing called choice,
guided by the inner voice
you hear inside your head,
telling you when to go to bed.

Each choice you make
whether big or small
has the potential
to change it all.
Where to go,
what to eat,
when to talk to
the people you meet."

"These words you speak,
ideas you present,
by chance
exactly represent
what I said
the other day,
speaking with wombat
down by the bay.

He seemed to think
just as you,
most things happen
from what we do.
If we choose to eat
we grow healthy and strong,
if we don’t look for food
it all goes wrong.
