muse magnetism

your words brush teasing
across my racing pulse
and it flutters
I cannot breathe
that ephemeral cord
running from my soul to my need
tugs hard
leaving me thrumming
every nerve ending humming
and I've lost the thread of conversation
distracted by the tickle
of each descending pearl
breaking all pretense at concentration
I burn in that sheltered valley
torn between what I desperately want
and what can never be
without even thinking fingers begin seeking
the heat of their tips
imagined just as easily
as other hands
and lips
I alone shoulder the weight
of this unbearably smothering ache
where my need far outreaches possibility
scent of arousal slowly overtakes
and I weep with a hunger
I alone can never sate
