Two Mad Chaps
It’s always nice to see you old friend
Just like the last time we met
When you drove all that way to see me
And I was so grateful I thanked you for it
So many years between us
So many layers below and on top
All those mad dreams we’ve shared
Never wanting any to really ever stop
I remember dancing round the fire
With you and some of our crowd
The songs we sang that night
The music rich and loud
You asking what we want to be
When we all grew up
And me saying ‘very old’
And someone raising their cup
And you asking about my car
And if you could borrow it
And me saying it’s not mine
And all those joints we lit
I remember your nickname
And how it came to be
How I deftly shortened it
No-one noticing it was me
The ink splodge for our society
That crazy idea I had
All forgotten by everyone
Tough luck, too bad
And I remember you saying
What’s that stain upon your grass?
And me annoyed replying
Oh a roof sheet of course
And then there were the parties
Too many for most to recall
With every drug imaginable
Miracle, I remember them all
Dear friend it’s been so great
To know you & play as well
I hope you find you and me
In some of the stories we tell
Just like the last time we met
