Know they are much like you
With hidden wings
And clawed scaly feet

Don’t let the softness
Of feathers and fur deceive
Fangs and talons and
Sharp beaks, stinging sacks

Envy is not a crime yet
Inspiration a distant dream
Our lists of casualties
Of well-meaning co-conspirators

Of knowing hypocrites
Of sold out souls
Reaping any benefit
To be easily found

Feel the bindings
Loosen them a bit
Cry out in hopeless shame
Expect what is coming

Know it for truth
See the harsh justice
Accept your suffering
Like a man
