The beaver

What fools with vanity possesed
and with impunity was trapped
a waistcoat or a fancy vest
skinned for its pelt; now that's a fact

It content in pool and lake
working harder than any army sapper
its woodwork skill that nature gave
that ichthyic dash and look so dapper

So environmentally friendly
fell and prune with expertise
no chain saw buzz, just gnawing gently
not raze, fell just to suit it's needs

The waters swell, and rivers rise
the populous half drowned; all rage
no beaver there to stem the tide
the answer comes from this old sage

For the dam, they didn't construct
is the Damn that foretold your bad luck
and those beaver clothes they made
will keep you dry as deep you wade
