Reflection
She wipes the steam off of the mirror
And reflects upon her day
Her beauty is really all too clear
And she prays it's here to stay
But she knows her looks won't last
And eventually will fade
Aging is the true forecast
And will come despite her aid
She still applies the eyeliner
And subtle shade upon her lips
She then leaves for Pat's Diner
And will receive abundant tips.

Crow, this evokes memories of my dishwashing days at a country club. The waitresses were these super efficient middle aged, Alice type women who weren't attractive in a mass media sense but they were beautiful to me. Their beauty shown through their kind, nurturing ways. As I age I realize that beauty doesn't fade it evolves into something much deeper and sustaining than mere sex-appeal.
To me this piece revives some of the noirness of your work. Thank you for inspiring me to remember wonderful people from my past. To quote a James Taylor song "There are ladies in my life, lovely ladies in these lazy days...may I say that I have loved me one or two" I find it funny that he wrote such songs when he was barely 20 years old.

Beauty, is soul deep; you could be the prettiest person in the room but if you’re a forked tongue hater with an ugly soul, you’ll always be fugly !
A beautiful write, crow... 🔥🔥🔥

I can speak from experience. Having made it this far, with so many foul ups, tells me I must be doing something right.

With age comes wisdom. Using said wisdom to continue to better oneself is true beauty. Great write, crowfly!

We always hope our mirror outside is an equivalent reflection of our inside. Sometimes we might need to put make up on our insides and hope people see that instead.

It's great when ageing brings wisdom and inner beauty rather than pretending to be still young and acting like one has learned nothing :))

What matters is who we are and who we choose to be...

I suppose this is deeper work than the frivolities I all too often come up with. Thank you LilDragonFly.
