Impacting War

There is a silence that sweeps the street
As our sons and fathers are called to war
There is no telling what might be
as they fight for their country
leaving homes hollow void
breaking smiles and families
many will perish many will die
and the acquainted will cry
flags will fly
dog-tags delivered to homes and teary eyed
I’d imagine the devastation
of a mother's only child
or the brokenness of a little girl,
orphaned by the stride.
I think of all the people who’ve survived
Yet fighting war in their minds.
And for those who lost everything for their country
But their country turns a blind eye.
I pray for those missing parts of them
trying to cope with life.
To those who fought bravely and are here with us today
“Thank you very much”
I just thought I’d say.
