Author's Note
This came to mind when a lover got upset because I didn’t call from work on a day when two of my patients had died. Sometimes I miss the days before cell phones and the expectation of constant connectivity with everyone all the time. There was something liberating about being unavailable except to the person in front of me focused and undistracted.

100 percent of being there for everyone is hard. When your two patients died and you didn't your lover is an example of a distraction or getting caught between a rock and a hard place. Keep on writing.
