THE REALITY OF LOVE
Love can't be imposed by force or fear.
Love is such a touch that hurts but keeps
who is hurt attached to whom he loves,
unable to abhor or to leave.
Don't ask selfish ones about true love !
Ask the God Who dragged His cross and died,
or His mother Who saw Him dead there,
after lots of pain and a pierced heart.
What is man indebted to this Lord,
Who could have destroyed those who killed Him,
but He asked His Father to forgive
as He died to free man from his sins?

There doesn't seem to be anything here that speaks to the issue of whether love is real or not -- which is what your title indicates is going to be the subject of your submission.
More importantly, your last stanza is one long incomplete sentence since it does not go on, as it should, to speak to (or to answer the question of) what "indebted man" is.
And isn't "abhor" a transitive verb?

So according to you what is being asserted here is this:

Sorry but this doesn't make any sense. Not does it speak to the issue that the title of JZ's piece says the piece is going to address -- whether or not love is a reality.
And did you notice that in order to present the picture of Jesus that he wants us to see, he has to harmonize three Gospel (and contradictory accounts) accounts of events surrounding Jesus' death? Mary and the beloved disciple appear only in John's Gospel. Luke and Matthew and Mark exclude them from being at the foot of the cross. It's only in Matthew and nowhere else that Jesus speaks of his ability to have legions of angels come to his rescue. It's only in Luke that he speaks the words of forgiveness. The other gospel writers do not allow this. In other words, Joseph has written his own Gospel in order to be able to make the claims he makes about Jesus and what happened at his crucifixion.

at first,
present myself as someone who
knows more than anyone
about just what it is
that all men want
or need
or fail to do
and truly (even though they sense it not)
conspires to make them sad
but quickly, inexplicably, go on
to shift without a warning note
to declamationed verse
awash in purple piety --
on how and why and that
sweet Jesus died
in pain upon a cross
so “man” could get unburdened of
corrupting vice and sin
and be released
from all the bonds
the evil and ensnaring earth
to him provides
and rise then to abide
eternally within a berth inside
some spirit home
up in the sky.
