we’re intelligent beings
when conditions change

we’re hunter gatherers
evolved over millions of years

when there was game
we ate meat
when there was fruit
we ate sweet

so why don’t we
hunt
or gather

we’re intelligent beings

we’re temperate creatures
evolved over millions of years

when it was hot
we would sweat
when it was cold
we would shiver
(and cuddle)

so why don’t we
shiver
or sweat

we’re intelligent beings

we’re diurnal creature
evolved over millions of years

meant to sleep at night
live and work
in daylight with the sun
on our shoulders

so why do we
stay awake at night
and sleep away the day

we’re intelligent beings

our large brain allows us to walk upright
evolved over millions of years

we are designed
to walk upright
run jump and dance

under moonlight
starlight
and sunlight

so why do we
recline
in chairs
in air conditioned spaces
in front of flat screens
that tell us lies
and sell us what we don’t need

we’re intelligent beings
when conditions change
we adapt or die

why do we exist
in sheltered spaces
breathing filtered air
where we can’t see the sky
except in a frame on the wall

we’re intelligent beings
when conditions change
we adapt or die

why are we
eating toxic processed non food products
grown in fields
that have been sprayed with nerve gas
(poison to us as well as our insect brothers)

grown with fertilizers that
sacrifice healthy soil
for short term profit
and pollute nature’s watershed

we’re intelligent beings
when conditions change
we adapt or die

why do we
produce power from limited resources
with methods that contaminate the earth
take our breath away
and choke our children

we’re intelligent beings
when conditions change
we adapt or die

why do we live in boxes
built from the precious trees
who
protect us
nourish us
nurture us

we’re intelligent beings
when conditions change
we adapt or die

so why do we
poison ourselves
imprison ourselves
serve life sentences

why don’t we
just rip off the bandaid
and
nuke ourselves

then the survivors
will be intelligent beings
who adapt or die
when conditions change

who become
the hunter gatherers
who evolved over
millions of years

when there is  game
they’ll  eat meat
when there is fruit
they’ll eat sweet

in harmony
with mother earth
