Skinned Knees
I have skinned my knees
Chasing a million dreams
I have tripped on so much doubt
and it laughs at me or so it seems
As it whispers all my faults
And does a two step with my pride
It has left me at the dance
And enjoyed it when I cried
But with each trip there’s been a hand
That’s lifted me from the shame
And put a dream back in my pocket
And gave some hope within the pain
Maybe I am just a fool
Or maybe I like skinned knees
But chasing a million dreams
Has uncovered the better parts of me

Dear V,
What an interesting metaphor of skinned knee’s and finding the good parts of oneself. I only wish I’d thought of it! I really enjoyed your entire poem but your third stanza was so endearing and sweet I found I had to keep reading it. While there are so many struggles for the daily parts of living I really found this very uplifting and a bit of a push to appreciate the parts discoverd that were truly good from all the skinned knee’s and elbows while trying to learn from life’s lessons. Excellent write. H 🌷

Loved the msg and tempo to this spill
Found me smiling while reading as i'm certain many can relate
For me,
as a child, i got way more stubbed big toes (huge chunks of skin revealing many layers below the surface)
than skinned knees but this was a time of childhood where 90% of the time i lived barefooted (1960's in Hawaii)
