Did they not warn me
when I was a toddler
to look out
while crossing streets
gulfs-limits-lines
Was my mother
not kind enough to tell me
not to date a woman
who had a love
for booze
brawl-black-bleak
So I thought both of us
were good enough
to live-love
together
until the lady in the car
opened the door
to throw her gift
in a fit of rage
I watched the packet
roll-away
in a parabola
as my woman said
something
in a fit of daze
that sounded like a drain
choked
gurgled
incoherent
disconnected
so unlike her
and the skid marks
on her back
started to ooze
orange
I sat down.
thud.
An empty bottle of
absolut crashed
l-o-u-d
against the tarmac
in the distance
preceding the
s-c-r-e-e-c-h
I thought I smiled
inside.
