Cookie Thief Song... I wrote it at 18

As I sat down in the airport on that rainy day
I discovered that my flight would be delayed
So I went up to the stand to grab a book to have on hand
and I thought that I would buy some cookies too

Who's the cookie thief?
Is it me is it you?
Things aren't always just the way that they appear
Who's the cookie thief?
Is it me is it you?
If I look inside the bag I find the truth

I thought the man that I sat by was a friendly one
so I thought my choice in seating was well done
I reached into my bag to grab a cook maybe two
but he thought that he should grab a cookie, too!

At first I thought in my anger I would come undone
But then I thought what's the harm if he eats one?
I thought I shouldn't care but my friend still wasn't done
We ate together til the bag was almost bare

We looked together at the bag with one last cookie
I just wondered what the man would choose to do
and then to my surprise he grabbed the bag and reached inside
He took one half and said "the larger half's for you!"

I sighed and left with relief as my flight was called
for at last I was away from that rude man!
so I sat down in my seat and said "I think now that I'll read."
...but when I looked into my case guess what I found!?

Oh, it's too late, too late to apologize!
My cookie bag is in my case I thought with grief
I see... how can it be!? I was the rude one full of greed
I was the ingrate... I was the one who was the thief!

Who's the cookie thief?
Is it me is it you?
Things aren't always just the way that they appear
Who's the cookie thief?
Is it me is it you?
If I look inside the bag I find the truth

I was inspired by a poem that was inspired by a widespread urban legend.
I wanted to sing the message so I rewrote it to fit my SDA idea of a good time.
