Botanical Grief

mourning doves
cooing
as i mourn

death caps
flourish
as i contemplate death

mimosa the sensitive plant
blooms
as i endure the pain of grief

another young man
fallen
before his time

cerea
blooms in the night
as i am lost in the dark night

lamb of tartary
stands
as i fall to my knees in shame

regrets
for not being there
to support and guide

crocus
breaks through snow
as i break through sorrow to acceptance

sunflowers
beaming
as i bask in the light of another sunrise

proud to have known this fallen warrior
thankful to have
shared his triumphs and failures

pheasants eye
flourishes
as i seek Otaheite
and beauty
in the balance of nature
