The Epiphany
There’s beauty in deception and vileness in authenticity.
Your arms around me at night, the empty space next to me in the morning.
It was never your deception that shattered my inhibitions,
Never a fabrication, never a falsity that you uttered.
You were authentic from the beginning, never faltering.
What we had was a season of passion, unbridled and unashamed.
But seasons end, and the autumn of our love turned into the dead of winter.
Your heart was frozen from the beginning, but your embrace warmed my soul.
Your hands all over my body, making me feel alive.
You sparked a flame inside of me that I never knew existed
An existence I wish I had never known.
No, it was never your deception that turned me into the shell I am today,
It was mine.
In the night I feel you creeping in my soul
Lurking in the shadows of what I used to know.
Then daylight breaks and I’m sleeping again with your ghost.
What a bittersweet epiphany.
