THE BUILDERS AND THE GAZERS
BUILDERS AND GAZERS
Don't trust the man who thinks the stars can tell
the luck you have throughout the coming year.
The man whose mind is flying up so far
can't see what happens on the earth quite near.
The man who watches how the rays diverge
their ways from side to side to pass or stop
must have a stupid mind that kills his time
to let you pass and write your name with gold.
Those gazers whose frail minds are traumatized
since early childhood by an ugly hag
endure the hardest time watching the cues
to pass this way or that as signalized.

Re. THE BUILDERS AND THE GAZERS
I don't seem to see anything here that mentions or depicts or makes reference to builders. What am I missing?

I asked the old astrologer
what fortune is now presaged by my stars.
But what he said in this regard did not come true.
The bad luck that he prophesied
was never to be seen alive.
In fact my year was full of things
that blessed my heart and filled my life
with joy and made me come alive.
Perhaps he once was blighted in his child hood days
by wizened hags so that his claimed ability
for sure prediction was then marred
and never stood a chance to thrive.
But was I foolish to have thought
that lights up in the firmament
had power over me and shaped my destiny?
I'll tell you once I see just how the readings I'm
about to get in consultation with another man
who says he knows well what
my birth day lined against the stations of
the sky bound wanderers portend stacks up
against the way my life unfolds inside the coming year.
The proof is in the way the pudding tastes.
So by this I will come to know if time spent with
astrologers and other peddlers of greet woo
is nothing but its waste.

Shouldn't this:
Don't trust the man who thinks the stars can tell
the luck you have throughout the coming year.
be
Don't trust the man who thinks the stars can tell
the luck YOU"LL have throughout the coming year.?
Don't trust the man who thinks the stars can tell

Dear Baldwin,
No l am talking about facts. It's no necessary to use the future. All of the poem is about facts.

Really? And which facts in particular are the ones you are talking about.
And I think you meant to write "it's noT necessary ...", yes?

You said
" The man who watches how the rays diverge
their ways from side to side to pass or stop
must have a stupid mind that kills his time
to let you pass and write your name with gold. "
Leaving aside the question of what astrologers do when they consult what the position of the stars (and planets!) were at a person's birth to tell this person his or her fortune is to watch how rays (from stars?) diverge or stop, let alone what someone is doing when he or she attempts to write one's name in gold --- is it really true that all those who consult astrologers are engaged in an attempt to do so. And why would an astrologer who is engaged in writing up someone's chart be wasting his/her time. How would this entail letting someone pass somewhere?
Sorry, but this stanza does not make sense. What you think you are saying there is hardly clear.

Very dear NB,
Thank you very much for the trophy. It's really very kind of you.

I could be wrong but I believe this poem is about building your own platform. Some people will gaze and tell you what they think but they are not you. You have to build your own story. There are signs for what to do but you have to find that yourself not from someone else. Is that right?

Re: Re. THE BUILDERS AND THE GAZERS
But which star gazers tell you what your future luck will be? It's astrologers, yes, not astronomers. And it's hardly true that astronomers are not concerned with things happening on earth, let alone an earth that is quite near.
Sorry, but you have not made it clear who you are speaking of here.
