The Hope He Found

Life pans out differently
For everyone
And although it took time
He started getting a hang
Of how to navigate
His own life

One day at work
He got invited for an outing

At first he only went to work
Just for the sake of it
But over time he got to know
Everyone
He got to his colleagues
And in a way they became
His new friends
He could tell when they were
Happy and when they had a bad day

He really enjoyed conversing
With them and really knowing
What brought them all
into the same place
And turns out his colleagues
Loved his company too
Because he got invited
To go out with the group

A few months ago
The idea would've
Been a huge no
It's a risk for colleagues
To know him casually
That's what he had thought

But now he didn't mind it
They went out for an early dinner
And a few drinks
They still had work the next day
So they went easy on the fun

They found themselves
Sitting together even after
Leaving the restaurant
They found a quiet spot
Near the park
Which didn't have much
Noise from the traffic

He somehow found
Himself at the center
Of the groups attention
As he finally shared
Parts of his life story
The good, bad
And downright funny

In the midst of the laughter
He couldn't believe whose
Eyes caught his attention

It was her
The one he used to know

For the first time
Since they last saw each other
He just knew that this time
She could finally see through
To his soul

He gave her a quick nod
As if to say that he is okay

And he got back to giving
His attention to the group
As she walked away with another

This was the second person
From his past that
he recently ran into
And now more that ever
It had become apparent
How differently his life
Had panned out

He failed when others succeeded
He was alone when others
Found love
And he had found himself
Back home after he swore
That he would make it in life

He learned that
Promises do get broken
The love of your life
Might only be there for a second
And just like that
You are looking for another
Love of your life

He learned that
Your conviction can die
That you can become melancholy
And that at times
You can only rely on yourself

But most of all

He learned that
You can start over
Even if it seems too late
It may not be too late
For you, also
Don't they say:

Better late than never

All he had in the beginning
Was a dream and the type of
Willpower only your youth
Can give you

He did everything the way
The world had expected him to
But this time he could finally
Do things the way he had imagined

He could see his dreams manifest
He could see himself build
And grow his own wealth
And that is what gave him hope

The knowledge that experience
Had given him had now
Turned into a new found hope

Despite old lovers finding love
With someone else
Despite old friends
Finding new friends

Despite you changing careers
Despite you being broke as hell
Not knowing what tomorrow
Will bring
And surviving many lonely nights

Despite all of this

It is freakin' great to be alive
