Idaho
We watched a show about Idaho,
But saw it differently.
You didn’t like the narrator’s voice.
I focused on the beautiful scenery
Of the Sawtooth Mountains,
The Bruneau Dunes, the hills of the Palouse
And the way the Snake river got its name.
You focused on his modulation and intonation.
I noticed his word choice and phrasings,
Like how he used the repetition of P
Saying purple petals instead of purple flowers.
You said I don’t think I can listen to this guy for an hour,
But you did, right until the bittersweet end.
Bitter for you, sweet for me.
My show ended with music and closing credits.
Your show ended with the narrator sitting beside an Idaho lake
Listening to the sound of the wind in the trees,
Soaking in the afternoon and not noticing that the nearby bird
That had been singing has suddenly flown away just before
The narrator feels the Grizzly’s breath on the back of his neck.
