After Breakfast

The cry of the cat in the morning
Clawing its way to my heart
Trying to make me understand
In any possible way she can

I promise
I'll still love you after breakfast,
If you could just do it now, please
Or for now I'll bite your leg
as you run around getting ready
It's much later than we normally eat, what gives, my love?
I'll try to stand in your way now
to let you know, that
I'll still love you after breakfast, dear
I promise

Late for a presentation
I've never been more nervous
Half way there and of course there's traffic
Sitting at a red light
Pondering to myself
Faces that form in the clouds:
Don't need makeup
Animals that graze in the grass:
Don't care what they're wearing

Shit, I didn't feed the cat
And she threw up

I promise
I'll still love you after breakfast, sweetheart
But for now I'll sing a song, maow!
As a token to our friendship
And then later you can loan me your hand, and I'll just feed myself
I'll practice every hour of the day
to let you know, that
I'll still love you after breakfast, dear
I promise

Author's Note
Inspired by NewBeginning's poem Cat Naps.
I woke up this morning and thought of this while the cat was being chatty.
