coffee, cigars, trivialities and existential angst
my old friend, life, and
I have an understanding
he goes his way and I
go mine
don't get me wrong,
we don't leave each
other completely
alone
we get together every
now and then, sit,
smoke, drink coffee
and talk about trivialities:
music
books
politics
and the
such
satisfied, we both go our
own separate way with
our understanding intact
this gentle detente has
served both of us well
for 61 years, no fuss,
little drama, respect
for the other's place
in this world
but we both know that
the day will arrive when
I will be seduced into a
tryst by that bitch femme
fatale death
and my old friend will
need to find someone
new to share coffee,
smokes and talks with
any takers?

Dear BK,
Happy Belated! 🎉🎂
Yes, here’s the thing- no takers need apply for quite some time. You and life can keep this party going for many many years.
I hope you had a wonderful day and treated yourself. Terrific write! Xx H🌷

The way I see it, you can always come back and enjoy Life in another coffee shop in another country in another time.
Death sounds like is a boring fucker anyway.

Kittybud, my friend, you've done it again...love your take on this... it's a fine piece of work...
the only thing marring perfection is one small typo in the next-to-last stanza...
first word, line four...I do believe your
finger slipped... there's no need for that "I" in tryst...huggy paws, Ely

Wow, this is such a fresh perspective (and did you just say 61 years)
Happy belated birthday and may you and life drink coffee and smoke more cigars and converse about trivialities. (and how about 61 and MORE years)
