Letting Go

I thought it would be painful letting go;
Heartbroken and completely lost
From the eyes that once admired you
To the lips that once spoke so fondly of you
With nights turning to days
And days turning to night
You were the anchor I once formed my identity upon,
The compass that showed me the way
The light that illuminated my path
But one day, I just knew.
That the shackles that bound me to you were broken.
And at that moment
Your opinion of me, your affirmation and your approval did not matter
Finally awakened to the person in the reflection
A warrior, sculpted by the very hands that created the Seas and the sky above
A gentle spirit with the heart of a lioness
Not afraid to be too sensitive
Or to love too fiercely
For it is in her imperfections that she understood her true character
