Darkness my Escape

Dark streets my only escape
Filled with the unknown
Stomach churning, strangers stare
My mind alert, I'm prepared

Safety craved, must protect my back
Conscious it's exposed
Cover desperately sort
Relieved,  in front stands a bus port

Walls on three side allows me time
A shadow is approaching
He sits close, my mind begins to spark
Confident in safety, on his journey I embark

He leaves thoughtful, job complete
Uneasiness subsides
More strangers approach, curiosity the driving force
Lives full of sadness, questions and remorse

Security comes in fluorescent lights
Light removes fear
Crumbs dot the table
Those crumbs, my only friends

Coffee does little to warm my belly
Shivering although not cold
Questioning, of all places, why the dark street?
Eyes stinging, tears form and run down my cheeks

Loneliness is overwhelming
Surrounded by strangers,
What are they thinking?
Are they looking my way?

Time to return and face my fear
Aniexity driving me to stay
Does returning mean I've been outplayed?
The Cafe welcome I've outstayed

Slowly walking, dark street unchanged
Hotel close
On the door I  knock.....
Waiting....
