Image for the poem while the earth remains

while the earth remains

time and tide
ebb and flow
amidst flotsam and jetsam
in the give and take
of my cut and thrust
existence

my ups and downs
fling me far and wide—
night and day
rain and shine—
in the high and low
of major circumstance

this and that
preoccupy my mind
mourning the life and death
of peace and love
for the people have run short
of the ways and means that
come hell and high water
rhyme and reason
can never rectify

the long and short
of this argument is that
while the earth remains
hatred and strife
and quarrel and fight
and envy and spite
and weeping and wailing
shall only increase

while in the antithetical bosom
of God’s abounding grace
seedtime and harvest
and cold and heat
and summer and winter
and day and night
shall not cease
