Dear Daddies - Too Late

I recently read a poem by a deep and careful thinker: "Too late," he called it. Brilliant title for a tribute to a late and great father. Even daddies have daddies to love and remember. Why stop remembering them when they are gone? Perhaps after they are "gone" we have all the more reason to draw them close to us.

Someone was more than happy to pick on what was really so very deep and clever, because he isn't so much a poet in technique as a seer of life. But I'd choose his stuff over Ezra Pound any day!

In fact, I'm no writer any more than he is, but the goodness of writing is what pictures, feelings and thoughts you conjure. How many ways can we honor our fallen or "deeply sleeping" fathers?

When we can't see them anymore, when the heat of our pet peeves have faded, when there are no more fences to protect, maybe it's not as cool in some ways to speak then, but we still need to do it. We need to honor our beloved fathers.
