New Year Day Dream #2
New Year 2020, Dream #2
Denver mental hospital doldrums
My Tai Chi class fall
Tells the instructress
why I had difficulty with Tai Chi.
She trusts me to walk to a nearby lake
to swim for exercise.
I choose to roam further afield in a siesta.
But my dream step out of the hospital doors
lands me on the rim of a huge red canyon in Utah.
What is unique about the canyon
is that there are big shelves of rock
hanging off the canyon walls.
I descend on a path to where
the shelves are bolstered by fingers of rock
as elegant as ladies’ fingers.
And there are pools of aquamarine water
in the cup of each shelf.
So I bathe in a pool
On the majestic feather canyon cliffside
Wishing I had the artist gift
To brush the hues of what never was
Into a vision of surreal hope
