Dear Daddies - Never High Enough
"This will be one of my last." Coughing cut the sentence short.
Bet you thought I was talking about puffing weed. That's a setup. I'm talking about walls you build. You *could* apply it to getting high, since it's just another kind of protective wall. I say that with no judgement.
There's nothing wrong with walls, Daddies. Even a psychoactive wall. But let's be clear where the walls should end.
"I don't like your writing."
"I don't like your life insurance policy."
Those are weird walls. But they are walls, too.
"Well, I wish you would write your spine-thrilling action adventure screenplay with babies and breast pumps being chased through Istanbul! You are probably the only MAN who could write it!"
"And you know you should finish writing the motherhood song with Songbird. Why don't you sing when you can make me cry? Let's record your cover of 'Lion Tamer' already!"
But I don't sing much anymore. Something got my tongue. Surely he can relate.
These walls went up to protect ourselves and each other. How many are too many? Should some of them maybe come down already? Fatherhood is hard.
You want to protect, but you want room to live. All of you/us do. We should work on it.
