Dear Daddies - Magical

"You wanna see a magic trick?" he says as he shuffles the deck.

"Sure!" She enthused.

"Then watch a magician!"

Gaffaws and joking continued. There WAS magic in that silliness, Daddy with his two girls, 12 and 13.

I watch my young ladies playing Blackjack with their daddy near midnight, which they invited me into and I declined, in favor of snack-making and babysitting, while partially staying close by - while I write for you in my head.

Later I'm on my bed with a tiny sleepy-head and the iPad.

While in the kitchen I prefer to kiss my husband on the sly. Standing next to him I can watch them all, anyway, when there is nothing else to do. He's joyful tonight; I am, too. How lovely and unpredictable these simple highs of life are!

Yet also are the lows; that's life. Nothing has prepared you for this; there's no such thing as being prepared - you know it when you are freaking out.

"When those two were lost to me, I really lost all hope. But I can see we are moving forward as a family. We are getting somewhere. We have to! It's our only remaining hope..."

Those could be your words, Daddies. Get ready for your crucifixion. You are not greater than he who laid down his life for you.

It's magical, and not as dark as you might think.
