Umoja (Unity)

First principle of Kwanzaa that's telling us to unite
A Swahili term that infers to have a collective fight
Our ancestors' plights command that we all do this
There's more strength in numbers as seen by a fist

An open palm can cause minimal harm when used
But a resistful fist can leave one battered & bruised
It's up to us to choose which Avenue we'll take
Not supporting each other has been a tragic mistake

There's more at stake than what meets the eyes
Too many of us are caught up within media lies
They're programming minds; doing it subliminally
Feeding us like sheep to keep us living separately

Dividing & conquering; strategically declaring war
Using plausible deniability & hoping that we ignore
They're watching the scoreboard & staying ahead
While serenading with lullabies to put many to bed
